“A shrewd buy” – Brentford coach weighs in on Onyeka’s Coventry City start

Brentford head coach Keith Andrews has opined on Coventry City’s decision to sign Super Eagles midfielder Frank Onyeka, Afrik Foot reports.

The 28-year-old was a rotational squad player under the Bees’ former coach Thomas Frank before he jetted out to Germany in search of playing time, spending a season on loan with FC Augsburg.

Upon his return, the Danish manager joined Tottenham Hotspur, and it was a fresh start under Keith Andrews.

However, it didn’t go as Onyeka had hoped. The Irish coach played the Super Eagles midfielder just six times, all off the bench, amounting to 88 minutes in total.

Prior to Brentford’s 3-2 win over Newcastle United last Saturday, Keith Andrews praised Coventry United on their acquisition of the Nigeria International.

“Frank’s a Nigerian international, that’s vastly experienced,” the Irishman said in quotes revealed by Coventry Telegraph.

“He’s been on this journey with the club since being promoted from the championship. Tough tackling, box to box midfielder that can get goals.

“I think he’s a really shrewd buy for Coventry, for where they’re at and where they hopefully want to get to,” the 45-year-old concluded.

Coventry City have a clause in Onyeka’s loan deal that would allow them make the deal a permanent one if they gain promotion to the English Premier League.
