English Premier League outfit Brentford Football Club have exercised their option to make the loan deal of Nigerian U-20 defender Benjamin Frederick permanent.
The news comes after Frederick impressed for Brentford's B team following his arrival last summer from Simoiben Academy in Nigeria.
The deal will run until 2028.
New Nigerian Bee for Brentford
Benjamin Frederick caught the eye of scouts with his performances for Nigeria's U20 team at the 2023 FIFA U-20 World Cup in Argentina.
The Flying Eagles reached the quarter-finals of the tournament before bowing out after they were defeated by South Korea.
Before then, he was part of the Nigeria U-20 team that finished third at the CAF U-20 Africa Cup of Nations, defeating Tunisia in the third place game.
Frederick’s strong defensive displays and potential convinced Brentford to bring him in on loan, with the option to buy clearly a sign of their belief in the young defender.
Since arriving at Brentford, Frederick has quickly settled into life with the B team, showcasing the talent that caught the eye of the club's scouts.
His hard work and dedication haven't gone unnoticed by the first team either.
While primarily featuring for the B team, Frederick received call-ups to the senior squad on four occasions this season, a testament to the rapid progress he's made.
Future in good hands as Benjamin Frederick stays on
The signing of Frederick signifies Brentford's commitment to developing young talent.
With a new four-year contract tying him to the club until 2028, Frederick has a clear pathway for development under the watchful eye of manager Thomas Frank.
While he may not be a first-team regular immediately, his inclusion in the senior squad demonstrates the belief the club has in his potential.
Brentford fans will be eager to see Frederick continue his development and potentially become a key player for the Bees in the years to come.
The ‘Bees’ are currently 16th on the English Premier League table with 35 points from 35 matches played.
