The chaotic scenes have since sparked intense reactions from Nigerian football fans online, many of whom described the brawl as embarrassing and unprofessional.

Nigerian fans blame Atlético Mineiro goalkeeper

A large portion of the reactions focused on the Atlético Mineiro goalkeeper, with many fans accusing him of initiating the altercation that triggered the mass fight.

Several supporters criticised the lack of sportsmanship and even called for disciplinary punishment.

X user @PRINCIPAL_XYX wrote:

“The away team goalkeeper should be banned for 2 years. They’re losing, and he still has time to initiate a fight.”

Another fan, @EsterOnyinye, also pointed fingers at the goalkeeper.

“This is so chaotic !! I think it’s the goalkeeper that started it.”

This suggest that many viewers believe the altercation could have been avoided if players had exercised better discipline during the tense final moments of the match.

Beyond blaming individuals, many fans also wondered what disciplinary actions referees and organisers might take after such an ugly scene.

User @Bayobright1 jokingly questioned how many players might end up being sent off.

“My own question be say how many people go collect red cards?”

Another supporter, @nation1404, joined the same sentiment.

“How many red cards can you see in the video? Or both teams lose the game.”

Meanwhile, @exco_7 suggested that authorities should consider punishing both teams.

“Points deduction for both teams.”

“Embarrassing for Brazilian football” – supporters slam violent scenes

Many reactions also criticised the broader image of football following the brawl, especially considering the match was a major domestic final.

One fan, @sammyronald9, compared the fight to martial arts.

“A state final ending in a mass brawl with kung-fu moves is absolutely embarrassing for Brazilian football. The goalkeeper practising MMA ”

Others claimed such incidents are common in South American leagues.

“They’re always fighting in South American leagues. It’s a common occurrence for them,” wrote @Iykconic.

Another user, @Titilope_khad, warned that serious punishments could follow.

“Don’t be surprised if you later hear they dropped one player. These guys are gangsters.”
