Premier League giants would be ‘crazy’ not to pursue Osimhen – Ex England international

Former Chelsea and Liverpool star Glen Johnson has urged the club to pursue Victor Osimhen to bolster their attacking options.

The Nigeria forward was widely linked with a transfer to Chelsea during the recent summer transfer window; however, a move from Napoli ultimately did not materialise.

After falling out with the Partenopei, Osimhen chose to join Turkish champions Galatasaray on a season-long loan, a move that appears to be a shrewd business decision for both the player and the club, as the towering forward has already netted three goals and provided four assists in just six appearances.

Johnson believes that signing the 25-year-old would not only enhance the team's overall performance but also inspire Nicolas Jackson to elevate his game.

Johnson: Signing Osimhen could elevate Chelsea's attack and inspire Jackson

Speaking to Betfred, Johnson stressed the potential benefits of signing Osimhen for the two-time European champions.

“I like Jackson a lot but as I’ve said previously, I don’t know if he’s the type of forward that’s going to get you 15 to 20 goals a season,” he said.

“Osimhen going on loan to Galatasaray was crazy when you consider all the interest in him in the summer. Considering that he is available, then I do believe that Chelsea need to get him.

“Signing Osimhen could even push Jackson to improve because he will have to fight for his place. It would be crazy for Chelsea to not try and sign Victor Osimhen.”

Although the former Lille Man's loan agreement with the Turkish club is set for a season, it includes a break clause that enables him to depart in January if any of his preferred European clubs show interest and are prepared to meet his buyout clause of €75 million (£63.2 million).
