Christantus Uche returns to Getafe : Can they rescue his career after Crystal Palace mistake?

Published on by

Super Eagles midfielder Christantus Uche is back at Getafe following a disappointing loan spell at Crystal Palace, Afrik-Foot reports.

The Nigerian shot to prominence two years ago after he joined Los Azulones from the Spanish third-tier side Ceuta. His quick adjustment to life in top-tier football ensured that he caught the eye of several clubs.

Eventually, last summer, after a great deal of speculation, he joined Crystal Palace on a season-long loan.

That transfer was expected to be a success, given his previous displays against Getafe and the fact that the Eagles had sold their main attacking threat, Eberechi Eze, to Arsenal.

However, it did not go as expected. Uche did not start a single game in the Premier League; he only made 14 cameo appearances, playing just 159 minutes throughout the entire campaign.

The only competitions in which he started games were the Conference League and the FA Cup. Before the end of the season, he famously stated that coach Oliver Glasner did not like him.

Now, he has returned to Getafe, but the question remains: can he rediscover his best form there?

Will Christantus Uche Stay at Getafe?

Although Christantus Uche’s loan at Crystal Palace has expired and he has returned to Getafe, his future still hangs in the balance.

The reason he moved to England in the first instance was due to Getafe’s financial struggles. It seemed likely that they would face the same issues this summer, but they might just find a way.

According to Spanish journalist Victor Llebaria Escutia, Getafe is planning to sell Luis Milla and Mauro Arambarri this summer. This will afford them the financial leeway to keep Uche for the next season.

The Nigerian has previously been linked with a transfer to Real Betis in La Liga, but he would definitely prefer to remain at Getafe, which is almost like home to him.

Moreover, his old boss, José Bordalás, remains at the helm, despite talks linking him with an exit. Uche has thrived under the tactician, and he will look to return to his best under Bordalás’ tutelage.
