FIFA has an official ranking system for international teams but what about at club level?
Although FIFA do not currently produce an official world ranking list for clubs, sports statistics experts Opta host an unofficial club world rankings, which is updated on a daily basis.
Opta rates every club out of 100. At the time of publication, English Premier League champions Liverpool are the only team currently with a perfect 100/100 score.
Paris Saint-Germain are third despite being the reigning UEFA Champions League winners, while Arsenal, Manchester City and Barcelona sit second, fourth and fifth respectively.
Bayern Munich, Real Madrid, Aston Villa, Newcastle United and Chelsea are also in the top 10.

Nigerian clubs way down the world rankings
There are no African clubs in the world's top 100, according to Opta, despite four — Al Ahly, Wydad AC, Esperance de Tunis and Mamelodi Sundowns — entering this summer's FIFA Club World Cup in the USA.
Sundowns performed better than their fellow Africans in the tournament — with the Pretoria side beating Ulsan, drawing with Fluminense and losing narrowly to Borussia Dortmund. But all four failed to progress beyond the group phase.
Al Ahly of Egypt are Africa's top ranked club, sitting 111th in the world ahead of RSB Berkane (159th globally) in second and Pyramids (160th) in third.
Nigeria are the sixth best men's international team based on the FIFA world rankings. But there is only one Nigerian club in the top 1000 of Opta's club world rankings.
That club is Nigeria Premier Football League champions Remo Stars, who are 914th in the world and 55th in Africa.
Rivers United, Ikorodu City and Plateau United are also ranked among the top 100 clubs in Africa.

How are Opta's club world rankings calculated?
Opta's Power Rankings use a global system to compare clubs across leagues and continents, rating teams on a 0–100 scale updated daily. This makes it possible to measure clubs like Al Ahly or Mamelodi Sundowns against Real Madrid or Manchester City, even if they never meet on the pitch.
The system is based on the Elo rating method, which adjusts a team's score after every match depending on the result, the strength of the opponent, and the goal margin. A big upset leads to a larger points shift, while a win for a stronger team changes ratings only slightly.
Because clubs often play only within their regions, Opta uses a hierarchy structure that updates not only team ratings but also league, national and continental ratings. This keeps global comparisons fair and consistent, ensuring results in the CAF Champions League, for example, impact Africa’s wider ranking.
Once updated, these Elo scores are scaled into the Power Rankings, ensuring the top club sits at 100 and the lowest at zero, with every other team ranked clearly in between. This means African clubs and fans can see exactly how their teams compare globally, using the same standard applied to Europe’s biggest sides.
