Coupe de France: Why Tochukwu Nnadi will miss Marseille’s clash with Rennes

Published on by

Super Eagles midfielder Tochukwu Nnadi will not feature for Olympique Marseille when they face Rennes in the Round of 16 of the Coupe de France on Wednesday night, Afrik Foot reports.

The Nigerian midfielder has been left out of the squad after failing to take part in the team’s final training session ahead of the tie.

The 22-year-old only arrived in France on Tuesday morning following the completion of his transfer from Belgian side Zulte Waregem and is still in the process of settling in.

His absence is understood to be a normal procedure for a new signing who has yet to fully integrate into the squad and match preparations.

Nnadi did not train with the rest of the Marseille squad on the eve of the game, making him unavailable for selection against Rennes.

Sources close to the club indicate that the coaching staff preferred not to rush the midfielder into action so soon after his arrival.

The Super Eagles star only completed his move to Marseille earlier this week and has not undergone full tactical sessions with his new teammates. As a result, he will watch from the sidelines as his new club attempts to book a place in the quarter-finals of the Coupe de France.

Focus shifts to Olympique Marseille debut

Marseille are expected to gradually introduce Nnadi into the team once he has completed a few full training sessions and adapted to the club’s style.

Roberto De Zerbi’s men will travel to face Paris Saint-Germain this weekend, and many Marseille fans will be anticipating his debut for the team.

The defensive midfielder was signed to add energy to the middle of the park as Marseille pushes for domestic success.

Having attracted attention after his breakthrough season at Zulte Waregem and his first senior call-up to the Super Eagles, Nnadi will now be targeting his competitive debut in Ligue 1 in the coming days, once he is deemed fully ready by the technical staff.
