The 28-year-old joined the EFL Championship table toppers from Brentford, and has played two games for his new side, immediately drawing affection from Cov Arena fans.

Onyeka was the man of the match in Coventry’s 2-0 win over West Bromwich Albion, and the fans started a chant singing the praises of the Nigerian ‘City boys are on a bender, we’re going up with Frank Onyeka.’

Frank Lampard was pleased that his January acquisition has acclimatised with the fans so quickly.

“Yeah, it’s a great song, isn’t it? I like that one. And he deserves it. He’s such a humble bloke who’s come in with incredible professionalism,” the ex-Chelsea boss said about the Nigerian midfielder in quotes revealed by the Coventry Telegraph.

Lampard revealed that Onyeka has spent several nights at the club’s training ground despite just having a baby.

“He’s just had a baby, and he’s staying over some nights, a lot of nights actually, and getting on with it.

“He’s low maintenance, training well, he’s quiet, and then he plays like that.

“So you know, I think sometimes a fan sort of senses a player like that, and he’s different for us.

“He’s clearly different in terms of his attributes in the middle of the park,” the Coventry boss concluded.
