“Not good” – Coventry City boss bemoans losing Super Eagles star to International break

Coventry City head coach Frank Lampard has beamoaned the timing of the March International break regarding several of his players, including Super Eagles star Frank Onyeka, Afrik Foot reports.

The Sky Blues are currently top of the EFL Championship, nine points clear above Middlesbrough with seven games left to play until the end of the season.

The former Chelsea man wants no room for slip-ups as he eyes a return to the English top-flight, but the timing of the International break has given him cause to worry.

Coventry City: Frank Lampard bemoans absence of Super Eagles star, others

Frank Onyeka and several of the Coventry players will jet out on the international break to represent their respective nations.

However, Lampard isn’t too pleased because his side plays the first game after the break, which falls on a Friday, while some of his players will be returning on a Thursday.

As such, it means there’ll be little time to train or recover, while increasing the chances of jetlag, fatigue or even an injury in a crucial title race.

“Maybe in the sense of that, but also now we’re sending players away that are coming back on maybe Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday and we play on Friday. So it’s not a good time,” the former England captain said in quotes revealed by the Coventry Telegraph.

“This is not a typical international break, I understand that, and then we play on Friday.

“I mean, I don’t get that. It’s not good for us because we have players going away and they’re out of our hands. Great, they’re playing for their international teams but they might have to fly for 10 hours and come back next Wednesday or Thursday.

“I’m not a fan and I don’t like to moan too much but it could have easily been adjusted so you at least get another day’s grace. So we’ll have our fingers crossed on that one,” Lampard concluded.

Frank Onyeka, meanwhile, will be looking to get involved in Nigeria’s mini-tournament against nations like Iran, Jordan, and Costa Rica.
