Coventry-linked Nigerian striker plays down Premier League move – Report

Nigeria and Shakhtar Donetsk striker Prosper Obah has been linked with a move to the Premier League newcomers Coventry City, Afrik Foot reports.

Frank Lampard took over as head coach of the Sky Blue Stars in November 2024, and in his first season in charge, he ended a 25-year Premier League absence for Coventry City, lifting the EFL Championship title.

Ahead of the 2026/2027 Premier League season, Coventry have already secured the services of Frank Onyeka, and Obah is reported to be a target for the Championship winners.

Coventry City keen on Prosper Obah’s services

Obah only joined Shakhtar Donetsk during the January transfer window, and has scored a goal in ten outings for Arda Turan’s side.

While his numbers with the Ukrainian side don’t echo anything close to prolificacy, the raw ability of the 22-year-old striker has drawn the attention of Southampton and Coventry City.

As per Footy Africa, the Shakhtar striker isn’t interested in making a big move this summer, having only joined from LNZ Cherkasy in the winter transfer window.

A source close to the player shut down any possibility of a summer transfer, urging Southampton and Coventry City to look elsewhere.

“It is not the time to talk about the future, especially after the amazing season he has had,” the source stated.

“Prosper is relaxed and very calm about everything. We are all incredibly proud of the progress he has made since leaving Nigeria for Europe.”

Southampton defeated Middlesbrough in the semi-final of the EFL Championship and will play against Hull City in the final at Wembley on the 23rd of May.
