Ebenezer Akinsanmiro: Real reason Inter Milan & Pisa disagreed on transfer of Nigeria star

Published on by

Ebenezer Akinsanmiro’s anticipated permanent move from Inter Milan to Pisa has collapsed despite the Serie B club attempting to activate their purchase option for the Nigerian midfielder, Afrik-Foot reports.

The Super Eagles midfielder spent the 2025/26 season on loan at Pisa and had been expected to remain with the Tuscan side after the club agreed to trigger a €7.5 million buy clause included in the loan agreement. Inter Milan also retained a buy-back option worth €8.5 million as part of the arrangement.

However, the transfer was never completed. Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano revealed that the agreement broke down during the final exchange of documents between the two clubs. As a result, Akinsanmiro will officially return to Inter, who are now considering alternative offers for the former Remo Stars midfielder.

Interest in the Nigerian remains strong across Europe. Reports in Italy indicate that Bundesliga clubs Werder Bremen and Borussia Mönchengladbach are monitoring the situation closely, while Bologna have also made enquiries. An unnamed Premier League side is also believed to be tracking developments.

Ebenezer Akinsanmiro: Why the Pisa transfer collapsed

Although the deal initially appeared straightforward, the real problem emerged during the final approval process.

According to reports from Italy, Pisa failed to provide the financial guarantees required for the transfer to be registered and approved by the relevant football authorities. The club had already exercised the €7.5 million option, but the transaction was reportedly blocked during document verification.

Pisa’s relegation from Serie A at the end of the campaign is understood to have played a major role. The drop to Serie B significantly reduced the club’s projected revenues and financial flexibility, making it difficult to satisfy the regulations governing a transfer of that size.

With the required guarantees not submitted, the paperwork could not be ratified, forcing Inter to cancel the operation. The buy option has now expired, and the Nerazzurri are reportedly seeking a fee of around €10 million from interested clubs for Akinsanmiro.

Born in Lagos and raised at Remo Stars’ academy, Beyond Limits, Akinsanmiro was a member of the Super Eagles squad to the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco.
