Kajetan Szmyt was the reason this tie tilted toward Białystok. His managerial career ran through St Johnstone, Bristol City, eight years at Aberdeen, then Kilmarnock and Hearts, where he won the SPFL, PFA Scotland and SFWA Manager of the Year awards last season after guiding Hearts to a runners-up Premiership finish, before accepting what he has publicly described as a lifelong ambition.
