Nigeria Football Federation is facing renewed pressure over contract talks with Super Eagles head coach Eric Chelle, Afrik Foot reports.
This follows the fresh details that emerged about his controversial 19-point proposal to remain in charge of Nigeria’s national team.
According to reports, the proposal—submitted on 22 January—is headlined by a request to raise his monthly salary from $50,000 to $130,000, a figure said to cover Chelle’s own wages as well as those of his backroom staff.

The development has intensified debate within Nigeria’s football space, with officials now assessing the scale of the demand ahead of a possible contract extension with the Super Eagles.
Eric Chelle’s salary demand labelled “dead on arrival”
While the proposal is still under review, a source close to the Sports Commission described the request as excessive and unlikely to be approved in its current form.
“The $130,000 salary request is outrageous, and it is dead on arrival,” Footy-Africa cited.
The reaction mirrors wider criticism from within the Nigerian football community, where concerns have been raised about the timing of the demand given Nigeria’s recent performance targets and financial realities.

Super Eagles coaching job: NFF to offer improved deal
Despite rejecting the $130,000 figure, the source revealed that both the National Sports Commission and the NFF are willing to improve Chelle’s current contract—but not to the level he has proposed.
“They will definitely offer above his current salary,” the source added.
“The next offer for the manager could be between $80,000 and $100,000, and obviously it can’t be above $100,000.”
Chelle currently earns around $50,000 per month, and his proposal would more than double his pay if accepted.

Negotiations are expected to continue in the coming weeks as Nigeria prepares for upcoming international fixtures, with Chelle’s future now dependent on whether both parties can reach a compromise.
