Super Eagles defender Igoh Ogbu remains optimistic he will get his chance with the national team and says he will keep working hard until the opportunity comes.

One of Nigeria’s best young defenders in Europe, Ogbu is currently with the Super Eagles in London preparing for the Unity Cup after being named in the squad by coach Eric Chelle.

The Slavia Prague defender was also part of the last Super Eagles squad for the FIFA World Cup qualifiers against Rwanda and Zimbabwe.

Though named on the bench in both matches, he did not get any playing time.

The 25-year-old previously played for Nigeria at the U20 level and featured at the FIFA U20 World Cup in Poland, but is yet to make an appearance for the Super Eagles.

Ogbu keen to prove himself with Super Eagles

Speaking to Afrik-Foot, Igoh Ogbu said that while he is eager to play, he understands the process and is ready to wait for his chance to prove himself.

“When it comes to playing, every player wants to play,” he said. “I have no doubt in my ability, and I’ll keep doing what I do. If the coach picks me, I’ll be happy to play.

“When the time comes, everyone will get his chance. It’s football—everyone just has to keep working hard and wait for his moment,” Ogbu added.

Nigeria will face Ghana in their opening match of the Unity Cup at the Gtech Arena, home of Brentford.

In the two-match series, the winner between the Super Eagles and the Black Stars will face the winner of the game between Jamaica and Trinidad and Tobago.

The losers of both games will play in the third-place classification match.
