FC Porto coach clarifies Super Eagles star limited game time

FC Porto head coach Francesco Farioli has revealed why Super Eagles forward Terem Moffi has had limited minutes since joining from OGC Nice during the January transfer window, Afrik Foot reports.

The 26-year-old exited the French club after he was attacked by fans, alongside racist altercations in between.

Nice didn’t stand up to back the Nigerian, and the lack of support felt daunting on Moffi’s part, hence his exit from his Le Gym.

He joined FC Porto on loan, but has played just 16 minutes for the two-time UEFA Champions League winners.

FC Porto: Francesco Farioli states why Terem Moffi hasn’t played much

With Samu Omorodion out of action until next season following an ACL injury, it was expected that Moffi would step up.

However, Turkish youngster Deniz Gül has been Farioli’s preferred choice, and the Italian coach explained why.

“The past few weeks, he’s been improving; he’s working hard. I’ve said that in terms of weight and body composition, he’s back to the level he should. He’s close. When can he be a starter? Soon,” the former OGC Nice coach said in quotes revealed by Ojogo Portugal.

“We have Deniz right now, who’s a step ahead. In the next few weeks, we’ll need both to help us keep the level very high.

“I thank the club for preparing us for the worst-case scenario in January, which unfortunately happened.

“We’re in a situation that’s not ideal, but we have two very good forwards. The two will have a key role,” the 36-year-old continued.

“Considering the European competitions, in which we were only able to register three players.

“Rodrigo Mora and Gabri Veiga, the two most offensive midfielders, will also be prepared to help.

“I talked to them a few days ago, and they know they are part of our plan; they are motivated to help the club and have the will to win. We are all on the same page.”
