Femi Azeez transfer race: 5 clubs battling to sign Super Eagles winger

Published on by

Femi Azeez has become one of the most wanted attacking players in the English transfer market after a strong 2025/26 season with Millwall, Afrik-Foot reports.

The 25-year-old winger scored 11 goals and provided seven assists in 37 Championship appearances, a form that earned him a place in the Championship Team of the Season.

Azeez’s rise also took him into the Nigeria set-up. He made his Super Eagles debut at the 2026 Unity Cup and scored twice in Nigeria’s 2-0 semi-final win against Zimbabwe. He then provided an assist in the final against Jamaica.

His club situation is now the main issue. Azeez has a Millwall contract running until June 2028. Reports have put the club’s asking price at between £15 million and £30 million, with the exact figure depending on the source and stage of negotiations.

Millwall’s position became harder after Hull City ended their promotion hopes. Hull won 2-0 at The Den on 11 May to complete a 2-0 aggregate victory in the Championship play-off semi-final. Hull then won promotion to the Premier League.

That result has created an interesting twist. The club that ended Millwall’s promotion campaign is now one of the leading candidates to sign Azeez.

Hull City

Hull City are currently the strongest link in the race, according to the YorkshirePost. The Tigers have moved ahead of earlier contenders and are reported to be leading the chase for Azeez. Their interest makes sense after their promotion to the Premier League, where they need more attacking options for the new campaign.

Azeez already knows Hull well. Millwall faced the Tigers four times in the 2025/26 Championship, including the two play-off matches that ended the Lions’ promotion bid.

Hull know Azeez well and are convinced the Nigeria international has experience in the Championship, knows the pace of English football and can play on either wing. His preferred left foot also allows him to cut inside from the right side.

Reports say Millwall want at least £15 million before they consider selling him. That would make the deal a major investment for Hull, but Premier League income gives the Tigers more spending power than they had in the Championship.

Hull need players who can contribute quickly. Azeez has already produced 11 league goals in a Championship season, so he would not arrive as an untested prospect.

Brighton & Hove Albion

Brighton & Hove Albion have re-joined the queue of clubs looking at Azeez, having been previously linked with the former Reading star.

Reports in April said Brighton were interested in the winger after he recorded nine goals and eight assists in 34 appearances at that point in the season. Brighton’s interest is also significant because the club has a record of recruiting players with room to improve and giving them a pathway to a higher level.

Azeez fits that profile. He was playing non-league football before joining Reading in 2019. Millwall signed him from Reading in August 2024, when his market value was far below the figures now being discussed.

Brighton would also offer Azeez a different route into the Premier League. Instead of joining a newly promoted club fighting to stay up, he could join a side with an established top-flight structure.

AFC Bournemouth

Bournemouth have also been linked with Azeez. The attraction is clear. Azeez can attack from wide areas, carry the ball forward and create chances. He also has the ability to move into central positions.

His 2025/26 season gave Bournemouth a useful sample of his output. That production came while playing against established second-tier teams, including several clubs with Premier League experience.

A Bournemouth move would also give Azeez a chance to test himself in a different tactical environment. The club would need to decide whether his Championship numbers can transfer directly to the Premier League.

Ipswich Town

Ipswich Town have already taken the most concrete step among several clubs linked with Azeez. Reports said Ipswich made a £20 million offer for the winger. Millwall rejected it and were reported to be seeking a higher fee because Azeez’s contract runs until 2028.

Ipswich’s interest dates back further. The club made several attempts to sign Azeez midway through the 2025/26 campaign, but Millwall did not want to lose one of their main attackers while chasing promotion. Ipswich eventually secured promotion to the Premier League, but their position in the race changed after they signed Abdul Fatawu from Leicester City.

Their interest may have cooled after that move but it certainly does not erase it. Ipswich have already shown that they were willing to put a major fee on the table. If they return with another offer, Millwall would face a decision between keeping a key player for another promotion campaign and taking a large transfer fee for a player who has two years left on his contract.

Aston Villa

Aston Villa entered the picture after Azeez’s Championship season had already attracted attention from Brighton and Bournemouth. Foot Mercato reported in June that Villa had identified Azeez as an attacking option. The report said Millwall wanted around €20 million for the winger.

Villa’s situation makes this an attractive option for Azeez. The club qualified for the Champions League after winning the Europa League, giving the Nigerian the possibility of competing at the highest level of European club football if a deal is completed.

There is also a squad issue to consider. Villa have established attacking players, so Azeez would face stronger competition for minutes than he would at some other clubs in the race. That could make the decision more difficult. A move to Villa could offer Champions League football, but regular Premier League starts would not be guaranteed.

Azeez therefore has several different paths in front of him. Hull offer a direct route into a newly promoted Premier League side. Brighton and Bournemouth offer established top-flight football. Ipswich have already made a major financial attempt to sign him. Villa can offer the added attraction of Champions League football.

Millwall, meanwhile, hold the contract. Any club that wants Azeez must first meet the financial terms set by the South London club.
