Femi Azeez: Why Super Eagles star wants to join Yohanna at Brighton

Super Eagles winger Femi Azeez has been linked with a move to Brighton & Hove Albion, with the Nigerian keen on a Premier League switch, Afrik-Foot reports.

Brighton have stepped up their pursuit of the 25-year-old as they look to strengthen their attacking options, with Foot Mercato correspondent Clint Ayooye reporting that the Seagulls have made Azeez their priority.

The interest comes after Azeez enjoyed the best campaign of his career at Millwall, producing 11 goals and seven assists in 37 Championship appearances and earning a place in the EFL Championship Team of the Season.

His performances also earned him a senior Nigeria debut under Eric Chelle during the 2026 Unity Cup. Azeez announced himself spectacularly, scoring twice against Zimbabwe in the semi-final as Nigeria went on to retain the trophy.

Now, the winger has an opportunity to turn that breakthrough into a Premier League career, and Brighton could offer an environment particularly suited to his development.

Brighton’s Nigerian connection strengthens Azeez’s attraction

Azeez would not be the first Nigerian attacking talent to arrive at Brighton this summer.

The Seagulls have already invested heavily in teenage winger Zadok Yohanna, who joined from AIK after a rapid rise through Swedish football. Yohanna made his Brighton debut in the Seagulls’ 4-0 win over Aston Villa in their Premier League opener, coming on for the final 12 minutes.

That could make Brighton particularly attractive to Azeez. Yohanna himself explained that Brighton’s reputation for developing young players was one of the major reasons behind his decision to join the club.

“I watch Premier League games a lot, so I know the teams that use young players, and Brighton is one of them,” the teenager said in quotes revealed by Brighton’s official website.

“They are really good at developing young talents, and I think their style of play will fit me a lot.”

For Azeez, the presence of another Nigerian could provide an additional layer of familiarity while adapting to the demands of English top-flight football.

Azeez’s profile fits Brighton’s attacking model

There is also a footballing reason behind Brighton’s interest. Azeez’s 11 goals and seven assists last season demonstrated his ability to contribute both as a scorer and creator, while his directness and versatility allow him to operate from wide positions or move into more central attacking areas.

That profile is important for a Brighton side that values technical ability, movement and positional flexibility in the final third.

The club’s own assessment of Yohanna highlights similar qualities, with the teenager described as dynamic, explosive and capable of taking opponents on.

Azeez, however, would arrive with significant experience of English football. That makes the Nigerian an attractive option for Brighton if they want squad depth while continuing to develop their younger talents.

According to Ayooye, the player wants to play in the Premier League, and Brighton’s renewed push could provide the opportunity he has been waiting for.

After producing 18 goal contributions in the Championship last season and establishing himself with the Super Eagles, remaining in the second tier would represent a continuation of his development rather than the next major step.

Brighton, meanwhile, can offer Premier League football without necessarily demanding that Azeez immediately become the focal point of their attack.

With the Seagulls now stepping up their pursuit, the prospect of Azeez joining Yohanna could be more than a transfer between two clubs.

It could give Nigeria two young attacking talents developing together at a Premier League club whose model is built around turning potential into top-level performers.
