Fenerbahce submit bid for Onuachu: How Super Eagles striker can seal Trabzonspor exit

Published on by

Paul Onuachu’s future at Trabzonspor has once again become one of the biggest talking points in Turkish football after Fenerbahce submitted a fresh bid for the Super Eagles striker, Afrik Foot reports.

The Nigerian forward enjoyed the best season of his career in 2025/26, finishing as the Turkish Super Lig’s top scorer after netting 22 league goals and ending the campaign with 26 goals across all competitions.

His outstanding performances have inevitably attracted interest from several clubs, with Saudi giants Al Hilal and Al Ahli both monitoring his situation, while Fenerbahce have now intensified efforts to bring him to Istanbul.

According to Transferfeed, Trabzonspor value the 32-year-old at around €30 million and have so far resisted approaches for their prized asset.

However, former Trabzonspor striker Mehmet Yilmaz recently admitted that the club may have little choice if Onuachu decides he wants a move.

“If Onuachu wants to leave, there’s nothing anyone can say to the player. If the player wants to leave, the management’s options are limited.”

That statement may hold the key to how the Super Eagles striker could finally secure an exit this summer.

Why Onuachu now holds the power

Unlike last summer, Onuachu is no longer simply an experienced striker trying to revive his career. He is now Trabzonspor’s most important player.

The Nigerian carried the club’s attack for much of last season, and his goals were largely responsible for keeping Trabzonspor competitive domestically.

That level of importance also gives him influence. If Onuachu openly informs the club hierarchy that he wishes to pursue a new challenge, Trabzonspor would face a dilemma.

Keeping an unhappy star entering the final years of his peak could create unnecessary tension, particularly when clubs are willing to offer sizeable fees.

At 32, this could also represent one of the final opportunities for Trabzonspor to command a major transfer fee for the Nigerian.

Financial reality may force Trabzonspor’s hand

The second factor that could help Onuachu secure an exit is economics. Trabzonspor have already rejected offers worth between €20 million and €25 million this summer, but the figures being discussed continue to rise.

A deal close to their valuation would provide significant financial flexibility.

The Turkish side are already exploring potential replacements, with Nigerian forwards such as Rafiu Durosinmi and Tolu Arokodare previously linked.

Such planning suggests the club are at least preparing for the possibility of life after Onuachu.

Accepting a major bid could allow Trabzonspor to strengthen multiple areas of the squad rather than remain dependent on one ageing striker.

For a club with ambitions of competing domestically and in Europe, that may eventually prove too attractive to ignore.

Why Fenerbahce appeal to Onuachu

A move to Fenerbahce would also allow Onuachu to remain in a league where he has already established himself as one of the most prolific forwards.

Fenerbahce have struggled for consistency in front of goal despite controlling matches, and Onuachu’s physical profile, aerial dominance and penalty-box efficiency make him an ideal fit.

Additionally, they’ve secured the services of Mason Greenwood, hinting they’re going all out for the Turkish Super Lig title in the coming campaign.

The opportunity to compete for trophies while remaining in familiar surroundings could make the move particularly attractive.

The final decision rests with Onuachu

Publicly, Trabzonspor remain determined to keep their star striker. Privately, however, the situation may be more complicated.

The comments from Mehmet Yilmaz underline an uncomfortable reality in modern football: when an influential player pushes for a move, clubs often have limited options.

If Onuachu formally expresses his desire to leave and Fenerbahce returns with an improved offer, Trabzonspor may ultimately be forced into negotiations.

For now, the Nigerian remains a Trabzonspor player.
