Nigeria’s U20 national team, the Flying Eagles, have commenced preparations for the FIFA U20 World Cup qualifiers, with head coach Aliyu Zubairu inviting 30 players to camp.
The seven-time African champions, who secured their spot at the U20 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) by winning the WAFU B tournament, will face Egypt in friendly matches scheduled for February 25 and 27 in Cairo.
This year’s U20 AFCON will take place in the Ivory Coast from April 26 to May 18, with the top four teams earning a place at the FIFA U20 World Cup in Chile, set for September 27 to October 19.

Flying Eagles players to watch
Clinton Jeptha (Enyimba FC)
A dynamic forward with blistering pace and technical ability, Jephta was a key figure in Nigeria’s WAFU B triumph.
He was highly sought after before the season, with Enyimba eventually securing his signature over Rangers.
Blessed with pace and an eye for good finishing, he will be heavily relied on for goals and assists.
Ebenezer Harcourt (Sporting Lagos)

Harcourt was a standout goalkeeper at the WAFU B tournament.
Initially the second choice, he rose to prominence with crucial saves and excellent distribution, cementing his spot as Nigeria’s No.1 at the tournament.
Daniel Bameyi (Bayelsa United)
The team captain brings invaluable leadership and experience, having played at the FIFA U20 World Cup in Argentina in 2023.
A tough-tackling defender, Bameyi will be crucial to the Flying Eagles' defensive solidity.
Nasiru Salihu (El-Kanemi Warriors)
A revelation from last season’s President Federation Cup, Salihu played a key role in El-Kanemi’s triumph.
A versatile midfielder with an eye for goal, he has already scored three times for his club this season.
Shola Adelani (Ikorodu City)
One of the breakout stars of the Nigeria Premier Football League, Adelani has netted seven goals this season.
Quick, technically gifted, and lethal in the box, he adds firepower to the Flying Eagles’ attack.
