Nigerian winger Henry Onyekuru has been left out of the squad for Gençlerbirliği ahead of their league match against Galatasaray, in what is the latest setback in a difficult season for the 28-year-old, Afrik-Foot reports.
The decision was taken by head coach Volkan Demirel along with the club’s management, with reports in Turkey suggesting the player will now train on his own for the time being.
It is a disappointing turn for Onyekuru, who returned to Turkey with high expectations after previous successful spells in the country. However, this campaign has been far from his best.

So far this season, the Nigerian has struggled to make an impact. He has played limited minutes across his appearances, often coming off the bench, and has yet to register a goal or an assist in league action. His attacking output has been minimal, with only a couple of shots on target recorded.
For a player once known for his pace and direct attacking threat, those numbers shows just how challenging this season has been. Despite signing a contract that runs until 2027, his immediate future at the club now appears uncertain.
Gençlerbirliği, who sit in the lower half of the table, have also endured a poor run of form, going several matches without a win. They now face a difficult test against league leaders Galatasaray, a side they have not beaten in recent years.

Osimhen returns as Galatasaray chase the Super Lig title
While Onyekuru faces uncertainty, there is more positive news for another Nigerian star, Victor Osimhen.
The striker has returned to full training with Galatasaray after recovering from a forearm injury that kept him out for several weeks. He had been in fine form before the setback, scoring 19 goals and providing seven assists in all competitions this season.
His absence was felt. During that period, Galatasaray dropped valuable points in the title race, allowing their rivals to close the gap at the top of the Süper Lig table.
Now, with only a handful of matches left, the title race is finely balanced. Galatasaray remain top, but only just, with Fenerbahçe and Trabzonspor still within touching distance.

Osimhen’s return could prove decisive.
For Galatasaray to win the league, they must handle the pressure of the run-in. First, they need to take maximum points against teams in the lower half of the table, including Gençlerbirliği. These are matches they are expected to win, and any slip could be costly.
Just as important is their upcoming clash with Fenerbahçe, a match that could decide the destination of the title. Avoiding defeat there may be enough to keep them in control.
Squad management will also be key. After a long season that included European football, keeping players fresh and fit, especially key attackers, will be crucial.
Finally, their strong defence must hold firm. Galatasaray have built their campaign on solidity at the back, and maintaining that discipline could be the difference in tight games.
With Osimhen back in training and the title within reach, Galatasaray now enter the most important stage of their season, where every point matters.
