Turkish giants Galatasaray have all but confirmed the impending arrival of Nigeria international Victor Osimhen.
News broke on Monday afternoon to the effect that the Napoli man, who had been frozen out at the Italian club following a summer-long transfer saga, had found an escape route in the form of a season-long loan to the reigning Super Lig champions.
It now appears that all the necessary agreements have been reached, with Osimhen departing for the Bosphorus on a flight on Monday night.
Remarkably, Galatasaray then posted a livestream, almost an hour long, of the 25-year-old’s flight to Istanbul on their official YouTube channel, sending fans of the club into a frenzy.
This, in addition to a number of less-than-subtle posts on their social media accounts, can be safely construed as proof they have gotten their man.
Has Victor Osimhen signed for Galatasaray?
Napoli and Victor Osimhen have agreed a temporary transfer with Galatasaray. The terms are reportedly as follows
- A ‘dry’ loan: no option or obligation to sign permanently
- A break clause in January, which would allow Osimhen to leave Istanbul should a permanent offer be made that satisfies Napoli's demands
In order to facilitate the loan agreement, Osimhen has signed a one-year extension with Napoli, ostensibly to protect his value and get rid of certain clauses in his previous contract.
The reigning CAF Player of the Year, who has been training on his own all summer, will undergo a medical on Tuesday.
While the 24-time Turkish champions failed to advance to the UEFA Champions League group stage, they are going strong in defence of their league crown having posted three wins from three so far in the 2024/25 Super Lig campaign.
Galatasaray will also compete in the Europa League, affording Victor Osimhen a continental shop window he would have been denied with Napoli.
Per reports, manager Okan Buruk is willing to alter his team shape to accommodate the 2022/23 Serie A capocannoniere, and is mulling an intriguing strike partnership of Osimhen and Mauro Icardi.
