Guinea vs Senegal AFCON prediction, lineups and where to watch live

Published on by Kelechi Udoka

Sparks will fly as Guinea and Senegal battle for supremacy at the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON 2024). Which of these teams will come out on top after all is said and done?

Guinea vs Senegal overview

This Group C clash will take place at the Charles Konan Banny Stadium in Yamoussoukro on Tuesday January 23. Kick-off time is 6 pm WAT.

Guinea

Guinea have secured a place in the knockout stages of this competition, after accumulating four points from a possible six in their first two games. Kaba Diawara's troops will be eyeing the top spot as they square off against an in-form Senegal on Tuesday.

Senegal

Senegal have looked like the best team in this tournament. They won two of two games, scoring six times in the process. The defending champions will look to keep their place at the top of Group C by winning this match.

Guinea vs Senegal head to head

Guinea and Senegal first clashed in a friendly match in December 1963, and this will be their 60th meeting.

Senegal currently lead the head-to-head between these teams with 28 wins. 15 of 59 skirmishes between these outfits ended in stalemates, while Guinea came out on top 15 times.

It's also fair to note that these teams were paired in the previous edition of this tournament; and like this year, they took the top 2 spots in the group.

Guinea vs Senegal potential lineups

Kaba Diawara will have to do without François Kamano, as the Abha player was sent off in their previous game. Serhou Guirassy is also questionable for this game.

The Syli National are expected to line up in a 4-2-3-1 formation, with Mohamed Bayo being the sole striker. The Le Havre player scored the team's chest goal in this competition.

On the other hand, Aliou Cisse will likely adopt a 4-3-3 formation for this match. Lamine Camara and Habib Diallo are doubts for this clash, while Nottingham Forest's Moussa Niakhaté is ruled out.

With that being said, these are our probable Guinea vs Senegal lineups

Guinea vs Senegal tactical analysis

Guinea have enjoyed some fine form in recent months, losing just once in their last eight matches. They won four of those games, with three draws.

Kaba Diawara's troops have been able to score consistently, finding the net in 12 of their last 13 matches.

Likewise, Senegal have been unstoppable lately, winning three consecutive matches with no losses in six games.

Aliou Cisse's men kept five clean sheets in their last six matches, allowing just one goal.

Guinea vs Senegal prediction

If we're excluding African Nations Championships (CHAN) games, the last time Guinea defeated Senegal was in AFCON 2000.

Senegal have dominated previous clashes between these teams, and we don't expect that dominance to end here.

Taking everything into account, we are leaning towards the defending champions for the victory.
