Gift sends an “I am ready for Nigeria” signal in viral social media video.
KAA Gent of Belgium forward, Gift Orban might have finally decided on which National team to play for following a recent social media post (Instagram) dancing to a tune wearing the Super Eagles jersey. He was recently omitted from the Super Eagles provisional squad list for 2023 Africa Cup of Nations tournament despite putting up some decent shifts for his club side so far this season.
There have been some reports as regards the omission with some termng it as Gift being indecisive yet on the national team to feature because he can as well play for Togo, Benin-Republic and Nigeria. The latter is definitely the biggest of all three and if the visuals in the video are anything to go by, he might just be donning the “green and white” jersey in 2024.
The 23-year-old attacker who was invited by Jose Peseiro for the AFCON qualifiers against Sao Tome and Principe could not feature due to an injury he picked up in a league game before the match that was held in Nigeria. It would have presented a good chance for the coach and the Nigerian fans to have seen the exciting young prospect and probably that could have made a good case for his inclusion ahead of the Africa Cup of Nations to be held in Ivory Coast in 2024.
Lately, Gift has struggled for form and that has recently seen him miss out of the starting XI for his club side. There are reports pinning his current form to some off-field issues which might lead to his exit from Belgium in the January transfer window. Premier League side, Tottenham Hotspur have been linked as a potential destination considering that the London outfit might have to do without the services of some African players who would feature in the AFCON and Asian player, Son Heung Min would be playing at the Asian Cup within the same window. Should the move pull through, it presents a perfect opportunity for Gift to announce himself on a bigger stage.
