Nigeria star Victor Boniface has stunned Super Eagles fans with what appears to be a retirement announcement.
In Nigeria’s 1-1 draw with Russia on Friday, the Bayer Leverkusen man was substituted in the second half following yet another goalless performance on the international stage. His replacement, Tolu Arokodare, would go on to score the equaliser.
Following full time, the striker took to Instagram and, in a cryptic post, seems to have called time on his Super Eagles journey. The post read:
Proud to play for my country and a dream for me also
Really enjoyed every moment the good and bad
Thanks a lotThank you All
I don hang boot

The player has now deleted the post.
What does Victor Boniface's post mean?
It remains unclear what the 24-year-old intended by the post.
While the expression ‘I don hang boot' has retirement connotations, Victor Boniface does have a reputation for being playful on his social media.

If indeed he is retiring, it would come as a shock to most considering his age. However, he has struggled to make a mark at international level, and is now 13 matches without a goal for the Super Eagles.
This return has earned him significant criticism, but retirement wold be a drastic, unprecedented recourse.
