Iheanacho: Brazilian transfer target set to draw curtain on calamitous Sevilla spell

When Super Eagles striker Kelechi Iheanacho arrived in Seville last summer, hopes were high that the former Manchester City forward could rediscover his form and make a significant impact in La Liga.

However, the move from Leicester City has not gone as planned.

Iheanacho has struggled to adapt to Spanish football and has yet to live up to expectations.

While he has scored three goals in the Copa del Rey, he has failed to secure a starting spot in Sevilla’s La Liga matches.

The Nigerian has featured in nine La Liga games, but is yet to record a goal or an assist.

Last weekend, he was substituted at half-time during Sevilla’s 1-0 win over Celta Vigo, a performance that reportedly frustrated the coaching staff.

It seems the patience of the Sevilla hierarchy with the 2013 FIFA U-17 World Cup winner is wearing thin.

Sevilla to replace Iheanacho with little-known Brazilian striker?

Reports from Spain suggest Sevilla are looking to offload Iheanacho to free up space for another striker.

Brazilian forward Juninho Vieira, currently with Azerbaijani side Qarabağ, is said to be their top target.

The 28-year-old has an impressive record, with 41 goals and 13 assists in 80 games for Qarabağ.

Despite playing in a lower league, Vieira’s consistent performances and numbers, including 10 goals in 25 matches this season, have reportedly convinced Sevilla’s management to bring him to Spain.

His experience in both the Europa League and Champions League further boosts his appeal.

To facilitate Iheanacho’s departure, Sevilla may explore a loan deal, especially given his wages.

Although Iheanacho has expressed a desire to stay in Spain, he is unlikely to lack suitors if he moves, with two English Championship clubs reportedly interested in his services.
