Iheanacho: How 2 goals vs Muğlaspor shatter Turkish record & surpass Man City best

Published on by

Super Eagles striker Kelechi Iheanacho has set two remarkable records after scoring twice for Bursaspor in their Turkish league encounter against Muğlaspor on Thursday.

The Nigerian international delivered another outstanding performance, bagging a brace in the second half to help Bursaspor on the way to a comfortable win in their TFF 1. Lig fixture.

Iheanacho opened the scoring in the 57th minute after a goalless first half, with the goal confirmed following a VAR review.

The former Manchester City and Leicester City striker returned in the 78th minute to double Bursaspor’s advantage, completing his brace before substitute Huseyin Maldar added a third goal four minutes later.

Having completed his scoring assignment, Iheanacho was substituted in the 83rd minute, making way for Baran Basyigit.

Iheanacho breaks Turkish record and reaches career-best milestone

The brace extended Iheanacho’s remarkable scoring run to 10 consecutive league appearances since joining Bursaspor in the summer as a free agent.

That excellent streak makes him the first player in Turkish professional football history to score in 10 successive league matches.

The 29-year-old has found the net in each of Bursaspor’s first 10 league appearances of the 2026-27 campaign, surpassing the previous nine-match record held by the iconic Turkish duo of Metin Oktay and Saffet Sancaklı.

The former Celtic and Sevilla striker, who is pushing for more Super Eagles recognition, now has 14 goals in only 10 games for Bursaspor.

With that tally, Iheanacho has equaled his previous career best in a single season of 14 goals across all competitions during his breakthrough 2015-16 campaign with Manchester City.

This is, however, the first time he will score 14 goals in a league campaign for any club in his career.

The former Leicester City striker, a brilliant addition for Bursaspor, will look to extend that record when his club hosts Pendikspor on October 19.
