Sevilla have confirmed the departure of Nigeria striker Kelechi Iheanacho after both parties agreed to terminate his contract by mutual consent.
The move brings an abrupt end to his short and difficult spell in Spain, and leaves the 28-year-old forward searching for a new club at a critical stage of his career.
Iheanacho joined Sevilla in the summer of 2024 following his release from Leicester City, where he scored more than 60 goals across seven years and lifted the FA Cup in 2021. His arrival in La Liga was meant to rejuvenate his career, but he never truly settled. The striker managed just 11 appearances and three goals before being sent on loan to Middlesbrough in January.

In England, he contributed one goal and two assists across 15 Championship games, but on returning to Spain he quickly fell out of favour with manager Matías Almeyda.
Uninspiring Iheanacho out of Super Eagles reckoning
Excluded from Sevilla’s opening three league matchday squads this season, both sides agreed to a termination despite two years left on his contract.
The former Manchester City youngster is now a free agent and has already been linked with a possible reunion with Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers, who worked with him during their time together at Leicester City.

Iheanacho’s situation raises further doubts about his role in the national team. He has not scored for the Super Eagles since November 2023, against Zimbabwe in a World Cup qualifier, and has featured in only seven of the last 18 matches.
With Victor Osimhen established as the focal point and Victor Boniface, Tolu Arokodare and Cyriel Dessers all pushing hard for inclusion, competition is fierce.
Iheanacho has fought his way back into the squad before, but this time the odds look far steeper. Without consistent football, his international standing is at serious risk.
