‘Is everything okay with Alonso?’ – Fans blast as Boniface sits tight on the bench once again

The past few days have not been ideal for Super Eagles forward Victor Boniface, who has now gone two consecutive games without playing for Bayer Leverkusen.

The 24-year-old was an unused substitute in his side’s shocking 2-0 home defeat to Werder Bremen in the Bundesliga on Saturday.

Earlier in the week, Boniface was also left on the bench during Leverkusen’s 3-0 loss to Bayern Munich at the Allianz Arena in the first leg of their UEFA Champions League quarter-final tie.

Boniface initially lost his starting spot to Patrick Schick after suffering an injury, and has since struggled to reclaim his place in the starting eleven.

His situation was further complicated by a reported spat with teammate Emiliano Buendía during Leverkusen’s 4-1 victory over Eintracht Frankfurt.

Against Bremen, head coach Xabi Alonso made five substitutions, but Boniface remained on the bench for the entire match, raising concerns among fans about his current role in the team.

A growing number of supporters on social media have pointed out Boniface’s lack of playing time and speculated whether Alonso’s decision is linked to his altercation with Buendía.

There was also talk that the relationshop between Boniface and the club had soured and projections that this is the last season at the club for the Nigerian.

A lot also questioned Alonso asking if everything is okay between the Nigerian and the Spanish coach

A fan blamed the recent bad results by Leverkusen to the altercation that happened by Boniface and Buendia suggesting that since the row, the team has not been themselves again.

Another user reflected back to when Boniface was called an ‘untalented' player in a post that went viral a few weeks ago and posted about the striker not featuring for Leverkusen yet again.

It is left to see if Alonso will continue with the trend of leaving Boniface out of his team or play him in their next game.
