Super Eagles forward Alex Iwobi has reached a significant milestone with Fulham, making his 50th appearance for the club during their 1-1 draw against Arsenal on Sunday.
The former Arsenal forward played the entire match against his old team, showcasing his enduring importance to the Cottagers.
Iwobi joined Fulham in the 2023/24 season from Everton and quickly established himself as a vital part of the team.
In his debut season, he featured 30 times, scoring five goals and providing two assists. This season, he has continued to shine, already contributing five goals and two assists in 15 appearances.
Iwobi's Premier League journey
Iwobi's Premier League journey began with Arsenal in October 2015, debuting in a 3-0 win against Swansea City. He went on to make 100 appearances for the Gunners before transferring to Everton in August 2019.
During his time at Goodison Park, Iwobi played 123 matches, scored six goals, and provided 12 assists. His performances earned him the Players' Player of the Season award in 2022/23.
In 2023, he moved to Fulham, marking his third club in England. Since joining, he has featured prominently, tallying 50 appearances and maintaining a consistent output of goals and assists.
Where does Iwobi stand in the Nigerian all-time Premier League appearances list?
Iwobi's latest milestone places him among the top Nigerian players in Premier League history.
In April, he celebrated his 250th league appearance, ranking fourth on the all-time Nigerian appearances list.
With 268 appearances to his name, he has now overtaken John Mikel Obi (249) and Yakubu Aiyegbeni (252) to claim third spot.
The leaderboard remains topped by Shola Ameobi, who played 298 matches for Newcastle United, followed by legendary forward Nwankwo Kanu with 273 appearances.
Iwobi, at 28, trails Kanu by just five appearances and Ameobi by 30.
With just a handful of games separating him from surpassing Kanu and a strong shot at overtaking Ameobi, Iwobi is undoubtedly on course to set a new benchmark for Nigerian players in the Premier League.
