Super Eagles midfielder Alex Iwobi is not a happy man after Fulham's Premier League clash at Goodison Park ended in disappointment as his early second-half strike was nullified by a last-minute equaliser from Everton.
The result left fans and his teammates with mixed emotions, as Fulham left with only a point from a game they had hoped to win.
Iwobi, who found the back of the net in the 64th minute, admitted afterward that while scoring is always gratifying, his ultimate focus remains on securing three points.
The match, he noted, was a bittersweet reminder of their previous struggles, referencing a similar scenario against West Ham.
Alex Iwobi reflects on goal and Fulham's struggles
As the team turns its sights to the upcoming Brentford fixture, Iwobi emphasised the importance of learning from these setbacks.
Despite their strong performance, he acknowledged the disappointment in the dressing room but stressed the need to move forward with positivity.
“It’s always nice to get a goal, but the main thing, whether I score or not, is to get the three points,” Iwobi said after the game.
“It’s a bit of a bittersweet moment, but we have to learn from our mistakes. It happened before against West Ham. We’re kind of disappointed, but we’ll look at the positives to go into the Brentford game.
“It’s almost like a loss; everyone’s not too happy, but the manager says we should be proud of the performance and try not to stay down, so we’ll look at the positives and go again.”
Reflecting further, Alex credited teammate Emile Smith Rowe, whose assist set him up for the goal.
He praised Smith Rowe's creativity in advancing the play and noted his own focused finish, especially given his history against Everton's goalkeeper Jordan Pickford.
With another challenging fixture ahead, they hope to regain momentum and break their winless streak.
