Barcelona Femeni’s Interest in Akekoromowei

Before Nigeria U‑20’s crucial clash with Senegal in the 2026 FIFA U‑20 Women’s World Cup qualifiers, Akekoromowei was reportedly on the radar of a top European club.

Meanwhile, sources revealed to Afrik Foot NG that the club is Barcelona Femeni, Asisat Oshoala’s old club, with plans to travel to Spain for trials.

However, sources claim that top officials of the NFF withheld her passport, citing the importance of her participation in Nigeria’s must-win qualifier against Senegal.

As a result, Akekoromowei was unable to process her visa in time and remained with the Falconets.

She featured in the game, helping Nigeria secure a 1–0 victory, but unfortunately suffered a painful injury during the match, leaving the team and her European prospects in a difficult position.

Falconets Secure Win Amid Injury Blow

The Falconets dominated play throughout the first leg against Senegal, but Akekoromowei’s early exit disrupted Nigeria’s attacking flow.

Despite the setback, Chinaza Kindness scored the decisive goal, ensuring Nigeria took the lead ahead of the second leg.

The team will now turn their attention to recovery and preparation, hoping Akekoromowei regains full fitness ahead of the return leg. Meanwhile, sources told Afrik Foot that they are still awaiting the results of scans on her injury.
