Super Eagles striker Kelechi Iheanacho has been handed an opportunity to return his career to playing at the highest level following Fenerbahçe’s interest, but that leaves him with a hard choice to make.
The 30-year-old has enjoyed a remarkable start to life at Bursaspor since joining the Turkish second-division club as a free agent from Celtic in the summer.
Iheanacho has scored 16 goals and provided three assists in 12 league appearances, finding the net in every match he has played. His 12-game scoring streak has also set a new record in Turkish league football.
His goals have helped Bursaspor climb to the top of the 1. Lig table with 28 points from 12 matches, putting them in a strong position to challenge for promotion to the Süper Lig.

The former Leicester City striker has made no secret of his desire to become a Bursaspor legend. Speaking about his ambitions, he said:
“Becoming a legend of a great club like Bursaspor would be a great honour for me and my family. I hope something like that happens.”
However, Fenerbahçe’s interest could test that commitment when the January transfer window opens.
According to Turkish journalist Ahmet Selim Kul, per Transfermarkt, the Istanbul giants are considering a move for the Nigerian, although they would first need to create space in their foreign-player quota, which is currently full.

Why Kelechi Iheanacho might be tempted by Fenerbahçe
Fenerbahçe offer something Bursaspor can only dream of – Champions League football.
The Turkish giants are competing in the 2026/27 Champions League league phase, giving Iheanacho the prospect of returning to Europe’s biggest club competition for the first time since 2017, if a transfer materialises.
For a striker who previously played for Manchester City, Leicester City, Sevilla and Celtic, the opportunity to compete at that level again would be huge.
He would also be moving into Turkey’s top division, where he could test himself against the biggest players and increase his chances of returning to the Super Eagles squad, higher than the Olympic Eagles, which he represented in a friendly against Russia earlier this month.

However, a move would not guarantee him a prominent role. Fenerbahçe already have established attacking options like Verdat Muriqi, Kerem Aktürkoglu, and Romelu Lukaku, which means that Iheanacho would need to convince the coaching staff that his goalscoring form can translate to a higher level.
Why staying at Bursaspor could be more rewarding
There is a compelling argument for Iheanacho to remain where he is. At Bursaspor, he is the team’s leading scorer, a central figure in their promotion campaign and a player whose performances have captured the affection of supporters.
Club president Enes Çelik has also made his preference clear, admitting that he wants the Nigerian to stay.
“If a poll were held, I am certain that 99% of the people would vote for him not to be sold.”
He added that the club would only consider an exceptionally lucrative offer. The striker’s contract runs until June 2029, meaning Bursaspor are not under any pressure to sell.

Staying could allow Iheanacho to finish the season as the driving force behind a promotion-winning campaign and potentially achieve the legendary status he has targeted.
Ultimately, Fenerbahçe offer the bigger stage and Champions League football, but Bursaspor offer something just as valuable – the chance to build something lasting.
For Iheanacho, the decision is not about choosing between two Turkish clubs. It is about weighing another opportunity at the top level against the chance to become a defining figure in Bursaspor’s history.
