Ademola Lookman reached three career milestones on Tuesday night after coming off the bench to help Atletico Madrid beat Manchester United 2-0.
The Super Eagles forward struck 10 minutes from time to double Atletico’s advantage, capping a memorable evening against the Premier League giants.
Atletico made an explosive start, scoring in the opening minute, but had another goal ruled out just before half-time. Lookman began the contest on the bench before being introduced after the interval, and he made his impact felt with a clinical finish late in the game.
The former Atalanta star’s goal brought him personal landmarks against United and moved him into a tie with a Nigerian Champions League great.

New Ademola Lookman milestones vs Man United
Lookman records first career win over Manchester United
Lookman, who has struggled for Nigeria and Atletico this season, finally celebrated a victory against Manchester United after Atletico Madrid’s 2-0 triumph.
Before Tuesday’s encounter, the Nigerian had faced the Red Devils three times, recording one draw and two defeats. All three previous meetings came during his time in the Premier League.
His latest appearance therefore ended that winless run and gave him his first career victory against the English club.

Super Eagles star scores first Champions League goal against United
Lookman’s late strike was his first Champions League goal against Manchester United and his second career goal against the club.
His previous goal against the Red Devils came in 2021, when he scored for Fulham in a 2-1 Premier League defeat.
This time, however, the Nigerian was on the winning side, finding the net in European football’s premier club competition to help Atletico secure a two-goal victory.

Lookman equals Obafemi Martins’ Nigerian Champions League record
Ademola Lookman‘s most significant milestone on the night was rising to equal Obafemi Martins as Nigeria’s joint second-highest goalscorer in Champions League history.
The Atletico forward had scored eight Champions League goals before Tuesday’s match. His finish against Manchester United took his tally to nine, drawing him level with former Super Eagles and Inter Milan striker Martins.
Victor Osimhen remains Nigeria’s outright leader in the competition, with 16 goals.
Lookman will now have the opportunity to move ahead of Martins and continue his chase of Osimhen among Nigeria’s most prolific performers in Europe’s biggest club competition.
