Ademola Lookman is already sitting at the top end of Atletico Madrid’s wage structure after only a few months at the Spanish club, Afrik-Foot reports.
According to Capology’s 2026-27 salary figures, the Nigeria international is tied as Atletico Madrid’s second-highest-paid player, with a gross fixed salary of €12.5 million per year. Only goalkeeper Jan Oblak earns more, with a fixed salary of €20.83 million. Argentina international Julián Alvarez is level with Lookman on €12.5 million as well as former Tottenham captain Cristian Romero.
Lookman is also listed with €3.13 million in possible annual bonuses, which puts his potential gross annual earnings at €15.63 million. His contract runs until June 30, 2030.
The numbers put Lookman, one of Nigeria’s top five wingers, ahead of several established Atletico stars. Marcos Llorente and Álex Baena are both listed on €8.33 million per year, while Morten Hjulmand is also on €8.33 million. That means Lookman’s fixed salary is about 50% higher than the €8.33 million earned by that group.

Lookman: A major salary after a mid-season move
Atletico signed Lookman from Atalanta on February 2, 2026, after the two clubs reached an agreement for his transfer. The club confirmed that the 28-year-old signed a contract until June 2030. Atletico described him as a versatile forward who can play as a second striker or on either wing.
His move to Madrid came after a strong spell in Italy. Lookman helped Atalanta win the 2023-24 UEFA Europa League, scoring a hat-trick in the 3-0 final win over Bayer Leverkusen. That performance made him the first player to score three goals in a major European men’s club final since the modern competition era began.
Atletico’s decision to give him a salary matching Alvarez shows how highly the club rates his attacking ability.
His first Atletico months added weight to the deal as Lookman did not need a long settling-in period to make an impact.

The former Fulham and Everton star scored one and assisted another to power Atletico to a 5-0 Copa del Rey win over Real Betis on his debut. He repeated the goal and assist trick against Barcelona the following week, also in the Copa del Rey.
Within his first few weeks in Madrid, Lookman also registered goals against Club Brugge (in the Champions League), Espanyol (La Liga), and Real Madrid.
La Liga’s official player data credits Lookman with four goals in 12 league appearances during the 2025-26 season after his January move. Those moments helped build his position as an important attacking player under Diego Simeone and one to look out for during the 2026-27 season.
NOTE: The figures are gross salary estimates and do not mean every player takes home the same amount after tax. Capology also separates fixed salary from bonuses, so the annual total can change when performance-related payments are included.
