Not quite right – Mikel Obi faults Chelsea for Rosenior appointment

Published on by

Former Super Eagles and Chelsea midfielder John Obi Mikel has faulted the club’s board for sacking Enzo Maresca and appointing Liam Rosenior as a replacement, Afrik Foot reports.

Mikel’s anger stemmed from Chelsea conceding a 94th-minute equaliser against Burnley, and the result pushed them further down the Premier League table.

As such, the 2012 UEFA Champions League winner has hit out at the club’s decision to sack Enzo Maresca.

The two-time Premier League winner maintained that Chelsea were doing fine with Enzo Maresca at the helm of affairs.

“I just don’t see any consistency with our team. We had Enzo Maresca, who I think the choice to sack him was a massive mistake,” the 2013 AFCON winner said on the Obi One Podcast.

“Sometimes his hands were tied in terms of selections and players’ minutes. The club were telling him how many minutes a player can play. It’s ridiculous,” Mikel continued.

“We had a way forward, we won the Club World Cup, and won against big teams. For the club to sack him, it’s absolutely crazy.

“We took a step forward, and we’ve gone five steps back. Yes, Liam [Rosenior] has come in and won games, but something is missing, something’s not quite right.

“Cole Palmer isn’t at his best; there are stories linking him to Manchester United as well. Nothing is going on right at the club.

“He [Rosenior] has said some things a manager shouldn’t say; it’s inexperience,” the Nigerian concluded.
