Moses Simon: Why Super Eagles star could soon work under ex-Chelsea boss or Morocco icon at Paris FC

Published on by

Super Eagles winger Moses Simon could be preparing to work under a new manager at Paris FC as current coach Antoine Kombouaré faces the exit door, Afrik-Foot reports.

The French club, which recently completed its first season back in Ligue 1, is already planning for the 2026/27 campaign. Reports from France suggest club officials have begun discussions with former Morocco coach Walid Regragui and ex-Chelsea manager Liam Rosenior as possible replacements should Kombouaré leave.

The situation comes despite Kombouaré guiding Paris FC away from relegation trouble after taking charge in February 2026. Under his leadership, the club climbed to an 11th-place finish in Ligue 1. However, negotiations over a contract extension have reportedly stalled, with the coach seeking a deal until 2028 while the club remains undecided.

Backed by the wealthy Arnault family and Red Bull following their takeover of the club in late 2024, Paris FC have ambitious plans to challenge France’s established clubs and are keen to appoint a manager who fits their long-term project.

Moses Simon to work with Regragui or Rosenior?

Former Morocco coach Walid Regragui has become one of the strongest contenders for the job. The 50-year-old is currently without a club after leaving the Atlas Lions following the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations campaign.

Regragui is already familiar with Moses Simon after facing the Nigerian winger during the AFCON semi-final in Rabat in January 2026. On that occasion, Morocco defeated Nigeria 4-2 on penalties after a goalless draw. Simon came off the bench in the 82nd minute and helped Nigeria threaten on the counterattack before Yassine Bounou’s shootout heroics sent the hosts into the final.

The former Morocco boss remains highly respected after leading the North Africans to a historic FIFA World Cup semi-final and later guiding them to another AFCON final. His ties to the Paris region and interest in the club’s project have reportedly impressed Paris FC directors.

The other top candidate is Liam Rosenior, who is available after a disappointing spell at Chelsea. The 41-year-old previously managed Strasbourg in Ligue 1 and is viewed as an attractive option because of his experience in French football and modern tactical approach.

Moses Simon, however, would possibly prefer that there are no managerial change. The Nigeria international enjoyed some of the best football of his career under Kombouaré at Nantes, where he won the French Cup and contributed 37 goals and 42 assists. Since reuniting with the coach at Paris FC, Simon has once again become a key figure in the team.

A final decision on Kombouaré’s future is expected in the coming days, and that outcome could determine whether Moses Simon continues under a trusted mentor or starts a new chapter under either Regragui or Rosenior.
