Super Eagles winger Moses Simon was instrumental in Nantes' 3-0 victory over Montpellier in their final Ligue 1 match of the season on Saturday, helping the club confirm their place in the French top flight for next season.

Simon opened the scoring in the 18th minute, calmly converting a penalty after being brought down in the box.

It was his eighth goal of the season, capping off a strong campaign for the 28-year-old Nigerian.

The hosts doubled their lead in the 31st minute through Francis Coquelin, putting Nantes firmly in control heading into the break.

Montpellier struggled to respond, and Nantes wrapped up the win in the 79th minute when Matthis Abline scored from a Moses Simon assist.

It was a fitting way to end the season, with Simon playing a key role in both the opening and closing goals of the match.

With the win, Nantes not only secured three points but also ensured their Ligue 1 status for next season.

It was a great occasion for Moses Simon as he played his 200th game for Nantes in the win over Montpellier.

He showed sharp movement in the box to draw the foul that led to the penalty, which he confidently dispatched himself.

In terms of distribution, he made one key pass and completed 13 of his 18 attempted passes, finishing with a 72 percent pass accuracy. He was effective with the ball at his feet, completing three of his five attempted dribbles.

However, his crossing was less precise, connecting with just one of five deliveries from wide areas.

In duels, Simon contested one aerial challenge but lost it. On the ground, he was more impressive, winning six of the ten duels he engaged in.
