Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) President Ibrahim Gusau has paid a visit to crocked Super Eagles winger Moses Simon at his base in France as he recuperates from injury.
The Nantes forward was injured in the Super Eagles' international friendly against Mali in the last international window.
Simon started the game but had to be stretchered off after 33 minutes when he collided with the Malian goalkeeper and was eventually substituted with Cyriel Dessers.
The 28-year-old was part of Nigeria’s second-place finish at the Africa Cup of Nations, and he was instrumental in the run to the final.
The injury has kept him out of the Nantes team as they try to avoid relegation, sitting in 14th place on the Ligue 1 table, two points off the relegation places.
His injury is also a blow for Nigeria as he will miss the June FIFA World Cup qualifiers against South Africa and Benin Republic.
Before his injury, the former Levante forward made 22 appearances for Nantes, scoring three goals and providing five assists.
NFF president Gusau extends gratitude and love to Simon
When NFF President Ibrahim Gusau was inaugurated as the new head of the football federation, he promised to make the welfare of players his priority.
Players in the past have complained of being neglected when injured, be it on international duty or at their clubsides, a trend that has received widespread criticism among fans.
In his acceptance speech, the former NFF board member said his administration will continue to take the welfare of players seriously and will be in touch with the players in-season and out of season.
He also said no player will be abandoned when he or she is injured, and he has shown this by visiting Moses Simon at his base.
Sources at the Federation told afrik-foot.com that the Federation has been in close contact with other injured players to demonstrate their commitment to showing their concerns for players.
With the World Cup qualifiers on the horizon, the NFF President will also visit some players to liaise with them with the aim of seeing Nigeria at the next World Cup after missing out on the last edition in Qatar.
The Super Eagles are third in Group C of the FIFA 2026 World Cup qualifiers with two points from two games.
Rwanda currently top the group with four points, followed by South Africa with three points.
Lesotho, Zimbabwe, and Benin make up the last three positions in the six-team group.
