Nigeria vs Jordan, Iran: Super Eagles camp opens in Turkey as Chelle arrives for friendlies

Published on by

Nigeria’s Super Eagles, have officially opened their training camp in Antalya, Turkey, ahead of their upcoming international friendly matches against Iran and Jordan, Afrik-Foot reports.

The coaching crew, led by Eric Chelle, arrived in Istanbul earlier before travelling to Antalya on Tuesday afternoon. Their arrival marks the beginning of serious preparations for the March international break.

As soon as he settles in, Chelle is expected to get straight to work. His focus will be on organising training sessions, putting tactical ideas in place, and making sure everything runs smoothly in camp. This is an important period for the team, especially after Nigeria missed out on qualification for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

The players invited for the friendlies are also expected to arrive the same day, with the full squad set to be together before the end of the day. This will give the coaching staff enough time to work closely with the players before the matches begin.

These games are part of a four-nation tournament that was moved to Turkey due to security concerns in the Middle East.

Malian tactician Chelle will view this invitational tournament as more than just friendly matches. It will afford the former Lens defender a chance to test new tactics, try different player combinations, and see which players are ready for future competitive matches.

Some new faces have also been invited to the squad. Players like Emmanuel Fernandez, Philip Otele, and Collins Yira Sor will be hoping to impress in their first call-ups and possibly secure a long-term place in the team.

Jordan coach explains real reason behind Super Eagles friendly

Jordan’s head coach, Jamal Sellami, has revealed why his team is eager to face Nigeria’s Super Eagles in one of the friendlies.

According to Sellami, the main goal is to expose his players to different styles of football. He believes that playing against strong and varied opponents like Nigeria will help his team grow, especially as they prepare for their first-ever FIFA World Cup appearance.

Jordan will first play Costa Rica on March 27 before taking on Nigeria on March 31, both matches to be held in Antalya.

The team has already begun training, with 22 out of 26 invited players taking part in their first session at the Regnum Karya training ground.

Sellami used that session to stress how important this training camp is. He explained that facing teams from different parts of the world will help his players become more flexible in their tactics and better prepared for the challenges of international football.

Jordan have selected a balanced squad for the matches, including three goalkeepers, seven defenders, nine midfielders, and seven forwards.

Nigeria will face Iran on Friday, March 27, 2026, in Antalya, Turkey, at 4 pm local time before trading tackles with Jordan four days later.
