Nigeria name crack Flamingos’ squad for FIFA Women’s U17 World Cup

Nigeria’s squad for the 2024 FIFA Women’s U17 World Cup has been announced, with only one addition to the team that participated in the qualifiers.

Muinat Rotimi is the sole newcomer in the Flamingos squad that will represent Nigeria at the tournament.

Head coach Olowookere Bankole, on Monday, listed 21 players for the tournament, which will be held in the Dominican Republic.

Taiwo Afolabi, who featured in the last FIFA Women’s U17 World Cup, will captain the team. She will be joined by top scorer Harmony Chidi and goalkeeper Christiana Uzoma as key leaders of the squad.

In preparation for the tournament, the Flamingoes will hold a two-week camp in Santo Domingo, the capital of the Dominican Republic, before the competition begins.

The team is set to depart Nigeria on Tuesday, 1st October, as they aim to lift the title for the first time at the U17 Women’s level.

Nigeria has been placed in Group A of the competition, alongside hosts Dominican Republic, Ecuador, and New Zealand.
