Nigeria’s Super Eagles are 5th most valuable African team, Ghana 6th, South Africa 17th

Nigeria’s Super Eagles have dropped to fifth place among Africa’s most valuable national teams, following the latest update by Transfermarkt, Afrik-Foot reports.

Three years ago, Nigeria were top of the continent with a squad value of €339 million. At that time, they ranked above Morocco, Ivory Coast, Ghana and Senegal.

However, things have changed sharply. A big fall in the market value of several key players has pushed the three-time African champions down to fifth in Africa and 33rd in the world.

This drop has been driven by major declines in player values. Victor Boniface, once valued at €45 million, has seen his price fall drastically to €5 million. Taiwo Awoniyi is now valued at €9 million, Umar Sadiq at €4 million, Kelechi Iheanacho at €3 million, and Wilfred Ndidi at €10 million.

Despite this, Nigeria still have strong individual talents. Victor Osimhen remains the country’s most valuable player at €75 million. He is followed by Ademola Lookman (€40m), Calvin Bassey (€28m), Alex Iwobi (€25m), and Raphael Onyedika (€23m). Altogether, Nigeria’s squad is now valued at €209.08 million.

Senegal rise as Africa’s most valuable team

While Nigeria’s value has dropped, Senegal have climbed to the top spot in Africa. Their rise has been helped by an increase in the value of players like Iliman Ndiaye, who is now their most valuable player at €50 million.

Senegal’s total squad value stands at €456.80 million, just ahead of Morocco, who are valued at €437.00 million. Ivory Coast sit in third place with €410.90 million, while Algeria are fourth with €227.75 million, slightly ahead of Nigeria.

Ghana are sixth with €191.28 million. They are followed by Cameroon, DR Congo, Burkina Faso, and Egypt to complete Africa’s top ten.

Elsewhere, Tunisia are down in 14th, Cape Verde are 15th, and South Africa sit in 17th place.

On the global stage, England lead the rankings with a huge value of €1.62 billion. France, Spain, Portugal, and Brazil complete the world’s top five.

Further down the list, Italy, Argentina, Germany, Netherlands, and Belgium make up the rest of the top ten.

Senegal are ranked 12th in the world, while Nigeria sit in 33rd place, with Ghana in 36th and South Africa much lower in 71st.
