Super Eagles defender Ola Aina could soon have his place at Nottingham Forest tested, after head coach Nuno Espírito Santo admitted the club needs reinforcements in the full-back department.
Following Forest’s 1-1 draw with Crystal Palace on Sunday, Nuno dismissed suggestions that his own job was on the line, but was unequivocal about the squad’s shortcomings.
“We need three players; one goalkeeper more, and two full-backs, because you cannot live with the fear and uncertainty if something happens to Ola (Aina) and Neco (Williams),” the Portuguese said.
Ola Aina has won possession more times than any other player in the Premier League so far this season (18).

Ola Aina must step up to stay irreplaceable
For a Forest side that has grown into one of the Premier League’s most compelling stories, Ola Aina’s contributions have been pivotal. The 28-year-old’s value is undeniable: his ability to operate seamlessly on either flank has been a cornerstone of their progress.

That importance was laid bare last season when a calf injury ruled him out in April. Forest’s fragility without him was glaring as they failed to win more than a single game in his absence.
Recognition of his quality also came at the highest level. Aina was nominated for the 2024/25 Premier League Team of the Season, having started 30 consecutive league matches before injury struck, and weighing in with two goals and an assist along the way.
This campaign, the Nigeria international has already shown his importance by starting the first two matches of the season at right-back, playing the full 90 minutes each time.
