Trabzonspor have received a timely boost ahead of their important Turkish Süper Lig clash with İstanbul Başakşehir, with encouraging news surrounding the fitness of Nigeria striker Paul Onuachu, Afrik-Foot reports.
The tall Super Eagles forward missed his side’s recent draw against Alanyaspor after picking up a muscle problem in training, raising concerns about his availability for the weekend. However, early fears now appear to have eased following medical checks carried out by the club.
According to reports in Turkey, Onuachu underwent an MRI scan which showed no serious damage. Instead, the issue was identified as a strain in the upper front part of his left thigh. While such injuries can sometimes keep players out for weeks, Trabzonspor’s medical team believe this one is manageable.
The former Southampton striker also received treatment for dehydration and is said to be in a stable condition. This has allowed him to begin light work as he steps up his recovery. Club staff are now carefully monitoring his progress as they aim to have him ready as soon as possible.

This update could not have come at a better time for manager Fatih Tekke, especially with the team preparing for a key home fixture where points are badly needed.
Onuachu back in light Trabzonspor training
Onuachu is expected to return to full team training shortly, with reports suggesting he could rejoin his teammates as early as Thursday. He has already started light running sessions, often called trial runs, as part of his recovery process.
The coaching staff are working closely with the medical department to speed up his return without taking unnecessary risks. A final decision on whether he will feature against İstanbul Başakşehir is likely to be made closer to matchday, depending on how he responds in training.

Onuachu’s possible return is a major boost for Trabzonspor, who have struggled in his absence. In the four matches without him this season, they have picked up just five points, drawing with Beşiktaş and Alanyaspor, beating Kocaelispor, and losing to Gençlerbirliği.
Onuachu’s importance to the team is clear. Despite missing several games due to injury, suspension and international duty, he remains the league’s top scorer with 22 goals. His physical presence, ability in the air, and sharp finishing have made him one of the most difficult strikers to defend against this season.
If he is fit enough to play, even for a short period, it could give Trabzonspor a much-needed edge as they look to return to winning ways.
