The Super Falcons forward’s goal played a vital role in ensuring her team’s continued success in the league, as they triumphed 2-0 over Saint-Étienne in an away encounter.
The match at the Stade Salif Keita proved to be thrilling once again for the team, with Onumonu’s decisive strike sealing the win for the visitors.
This victory came just days after Montpellier’s narrow victory against Nantes, where Onumonu had also been the hero with a single, match-winning goal.
Ifeoma Onumonu’s goal sets the pace for Montpellier’s charge
Montpellier entered this clash determined to keep the momentum going, and they fought hard to extend their winning streak.
The breakthrough came when Onumonu powered her effort past the Saint-Étienne goalkeeper just two minutes before halftime, putting her side firmly in control of the match.
Her goal, coming on the back of an early strike from Lola Gstalter, was enough to secure the three points for Montpellier.
Onumonu’s consistency has been a major driving force for Montpellier this season.
With her 4th consecutive goal, she has established herself as a key player for the French side, continuing to impress since her arrival.
Despite Saint-Étienne’s efforts and a late red card to Chloe Tapia, Montpellier held on to their lead and sealed their second win in a row.
And with this victory, Montpellier climbed to 5th in the Division 1 Féminine standings, keeping their hopes of catching Lyon alive.
Onumonu, who now has five goals in eight appearances this season, will look to maintain her form as the team prepares for their next match against Dijon Foot.
