Super Eagles midfielder Frank Onyeka registered his second assist of the season as Augsburg defeated Schalke 04 with a convincing 3-0 win in the DFB-Pokal, securing a spot in the Round of 16.
Augsburg took the lead in the 26th minute when Alexis Claude Maurice capitalized on Onyeka's precise pass to open the scoring.
Schalke’s defence held firm for the remainder of the half, keeping the scoreline at 1-0.
The second half saw Augsburg continue to press, while Schalke remained resolute in defence.
However, more goals were on the horizon. In the final minutes of the match, Augsburg’s substitutes made an impact, scoring twice to secure a comfortable victory.
Arne Maier extended the lead in the 87th minute with a deflected shot, and three minutes later, Samuel Essende added the third, putting the result beyond doubt.
Onyeka’s assist marked his second of the season, following his contribution in Augsburg’s recent 3-2 Bundesliga victory over St. Pauli.

The Nigerian midfielder played 58 minutes, making an important contribution with his assist for the opening goal.
He completed 21 of his 24 pass attempts, achieving an impressive 88% pass accuracy, and recorded 41 touches.
In addition to his passing proficiency, Onyeka made two key passes and two clearances, and succeeded in one out of two dribble attempts.
Defensively, Onyeka won four of eight ground duels, secured his only aerial duel, and blocked a Schalke shot, adding a valuable layer to Augsburg’s solid overall performance.
