Osasuna vs Sevilla: Akor Adams, prediction, team news and h2h

Published on by

Sevilla travel to Estadio El Sadar on Sunday for a Gameweek 32 La Liga fixture that could define the course of their season, and perhaps their long-term future in Spanish football’s top flight, Afrik Foot reports.

The visitors sit 17th in the table, one point above 18th-placed Alaves, and have won just one of their last five La Liga games.

Their only realistic route to survival runs through results, and the Super Eagles striker Akor Adams, who has eight league goals to his name this season, will need to deliver when Sevilla can least afford for him not to.

Osasuna vs Sevilla Match Preview: Stakes, Form and the Survival Picture

Osasuna are not without ambitions of their own heading into this game.

Alessio Lisci’s side sit 10th in La Liga, five points behind sixth-placed Getafe, and the prospect of qualifying for European football next season is still technically within reach, though their recent run of form has made that an uphill task.

Los Rojillos have won only one of their last seven La Liga matches, a home victory over Girona on March 21, and have since drawn with Alaves and Real Betis before losing 1-0 at Athletic Bilbao on Monday, April 21.

The saving grace has been their home form. Osasuna have accumulated 29 points from 15 La Liga matches at El Sadar this season, the sixth-best home return in the division, and they are unbeaten across their last nine La Liga games at the ground.

Sevilla’s situation is far more pressing. Luis Garcia Plaza was appointed head coach on March 24, replacing Matias Almeyda, who had overseen just one La Liga win in his final eight matches in charge.

Garcia Plaza has had little time to alter the trajectory. His side lost 2-0 at Levante on Thursday, April 23, a result that extended their run to four defeats from five La Liga games and added to the sense of anxiety that has surrounded the club since the turn of the year.

Sunday’s trip to Pamplona comes before a closing run of Real Sociedad, Espanyol, Villarreal, Real Madrid and Celta Vigo. Three points at El Sadar would change the entire complexion of Sevilla’s survival fight.

Sevilla have not been relegated from La Liga since the 2000-01 season. The weight of that 24-year unbroken run in the top flight hangs over every remaining match.

Head-to-Head: El Sadar Has Rarely Been Kind to Sevilla

Across 85 La Liga meetings between the two clubs, Sevilla lead the overall head-to-head record with 37 wins to Osasuna’s 25, and 23 draws.

At El Sadar, however, that advantage disappears. In 57 encounters in Pamplona across all competitions, Osasuna have won 28 times to Sevilla’s 14, with 15 draws, and Osasuna have remained unbeaten against Sevilla at home in their last five meetings in all competitions.

Goals have also been notably scarce whenever these sides meet. Each of the last five head-to-head fixtures has produced fewer than three goals, and the record over that period stands at one win apiece with three draws.

Sevilla did win the reverse fixture in November 2025, claiming a 1-0 victory at the Estadio Ramon Sanchez-Pizjuan, but the conditions for Sunday’s game are very different, with Osasuna at home and Sevilla having lost four of their last five La Liga games on the road.

Akor Adams and Sevilla Team News: Injuries and Predicted Line-ups

Osasuna welcome back centre-back Alejandro Catena after he served a suspension, and he is expected to partner Flavien Boyomo in the heart of defence.

Long-term injury absentee Iker Benito remains unavailable, but otherwise Lisci has a largely settled squad to call upon. Ante Budimir, the Croatian striker who leads the club’s La Liga scoring charts with 16 goals this season, will once again lead the attack.

For Sevilla, the injury news is more disruptive. Centre-back Marcao is ruled out for the remainder of the campaign, while Nico Castrin missed training this week with a quadriceps complaint and is considered doubtful. Andres Gallo is likely to step in alongside Kike Salas if Castrin cannot recover in time.

Cesar Azpilicueta is also a doubt, though his situation is less clear. No new fitness concerns were reported after the defeat to Levante.

Djibril Sow is expected to come into midfield, potentially shifting the shape into a 4-2-3-1 to offer greater support to Adams in the final third. The Nigerian, who scored on his senior Super Eagles debut against Lesotho in October 2025 and went on to earn a bronze medal at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco, is certain to start and will carry the primary creative and goalscoring burden for the visitors.

Osasuna predicted XI (4-2-3-1):
Herrera; Rosier, Catena, Boyomo, Galan; Moncayola, Torro; Munoz, Oroz, Ruben Garcia; Budimir

Sevilla predicted XI (4-2-3-1):
Vlachodimos; Sanchez, Gallo, Salas, Oso; Gudelj, Agoume; Romero, Sow, Vargas; Adams

The Managers: Lisci and Garcia Plaza

Alessio Lisci began his coaching career working with youth teams at Levante in Spain before eventually taking senior charge at Mirandas in the Segunda Division, where he guided the club to the promotion play-off final in 2025 before Osasuna appointed him as their head coach on July 1, 2025.

The 40-year-old Italian has impressed in his first season in La Liga, establishing a compact and hard-to-beat unit at El Sadar, with Osasuna’s home record ranking among the best in the country despite the club’s modest resources.

Garcia Plaza is a far more experienced operator at the top level of Spanish football. The 53-year-old Spaniard has managed 229 La Liga matches across spells at Levante, Getafe, Villarreal and Alaves, though his overall record of 66 wins from those games reflects the mid-table or relegation-threatened clubs he has typically managed.

Garcia Plaza earned promotion to La Liga with both Mallorca and Alaves before his dismissal from the Basque club in December 2024. He was out of work for three months before Sevilla turned to him as their last realistic lifeline in March 2026.

He has had just over a month in charge and has overseen one win, a 2-1 home victory over Atletico Madrid on April 11, alongside defeats at Real Oviedo and at Levante on Thursday.

Tactical Preview: How Osasuna Could Exploit Sevilla’s Defensive Fragility

Lisci’s preferred shape is a 4-2-3-1, with a compact defensive block that funnels opponents into wide areas and relies on physical pressing to win the ball back in dangerous positions.

At El Sadar, Osasuna press relentlessly from the front, with Budimir’s ability to lead the press against centre-backs proving particularly effective against sides that want to build from the back. Sevilla have struggled to assert themselves in possession in recent weeks, and Osasuna’s high-energy approach could expose that.

The visitors have conceded in each of their last three away La Liga games, and their centre-back pairing for Sunday is likely to feature Andres Gallo in place of the doubtful Castrin, which introduces a degree of uncertainty to Sevilla’s defensive organisation.

Sevilla will look to exploit the space behind Osasuna’s full-backs on the counter-attack. Adams, at 190cm, also offers a physical aerial target on set pieces, which is one of the more realistic routes to goal for Garcia Plaza’s side against a home defence that has not been beaten in nine consecutive La Liga games at El Sadar.

For Sevilla to take anything from this game, they will need Adams to hold the ball up effectively and bring Sow and Vargas into play at pace. A goal from a set piece or a rapid counter, similar to their 1-0 win in the reverse fixture, remains their most credible attacking blueprint.

Osasuna vs Sevilla Prediction: Why Osasuna Should Come Out on Top

Every strand of evidence points in one direction on Sunday.

Osasuna are unbeaten in nine consecutive La Liga home games, have won 28 of their 57 meetings with Sevilla at El Sadar across all competitions, and will face a visiting side with four defeats in their last five league outings and no away win in their last four trips.

Sevilla simply do not have the defensive stability or the attacking momentum to go to Pamplona and take three points. Garcia Plaza has the experience to set his side up compactly, but the personnel available to him are short of the form and confidence needed to make that count in a hostile environment.

Budimir, who has scored 16 La Liga goals this season and has been particularly prolific at El Sadar, is the most likely man to make the difference. He will fancy his chances against a Sevilla defensive line that has conceded in three of their last four away games.

All five of the last head-to-head meetings produced fewer than three goals, and there is nothing in either team’s recent form to suggest this one will be any different.

📊 Our Prediction
Osasuna 2 – 0 Sevilla
⚽ Likely scorer: Ante Budimir
Osasuna’s dominant home record, Sevilla’s alarming away form and the set-piece threat of Budimir make a home win to nil the most compelling scenario. The last five meetings all finished with fewer than three goals, and nothing in the current form of either side suggests Sunday will be any different.
