Victor Osimhen endured a difficult evening as Galatasaray suffered a disappointing 4-1 defeat to Barcelona in the UEFA Champions League on Tuesday night.
The Super Eagles striker had a goal ruled out during the encounter but struggled to make his usual impact as Barcelona’s defence and high defensive line frustrated the Nigerian forward.
The defeat was a reality check for Galatasaray against a Barcelona side that demonstrated why they are regarded among the strongest teams in world football.
Still, three details stood out from Osimhen’s frustrating night in Istanbul.

3 Osimhen things Galatasaray fans missed vs Barcelona
Osimhen’s five-month scoring streak comes to an end
Osimhen’s failure to score or provide an assist against Barcelona brought an impressive run to an end.
The Galatasaray vs Barcelona match was the Super Eagles star’s first competitive appearance since April without a goal contribution. It ends a streak that had carried through the closing stages of last season and into the new campaign.
His last game without a goal or assist came in Galatasaray’s 2-0 Turkish Cup defeat to Gençlerbirliği.
Since then, the Nigerian forward had contributed to goals in matches against Fenerbahçe, Antalyaspor and Samsunspor before continuing his fine form this season.
He scored braces against Çorum and Erzurumspor, registered a goal and an assist against Göztepe, found the net against Başakşehir and provided an assist in the 3-1 victory over Kasımpaşa last weekend.
However, Barcelona brought that impressive sequence to a halt, denying the Galatasaray striker the opportunity to extend his run.

2. Osimhen sets an unwanted Champions League record
Osimhen also endured an afternoon to forget against Barcelona’s high defensive line, which repeatedly caught him offside.
The Galatasaray striker was flagged offside six times during the match. That figure was the highest number of offsides recorded by any player in a single Champions League match this season. That’s an unwanted individual landmark Osimhen would be miffed at.
Barcelona’s defensive approach proved particularly effective against Osimhen, who thrives on running in behind defenders and exploiting spaces around the penalty area.
However, the Spanish side’s ability to push up the pitch and maintain its defensive shape repeatedly disrupted his movement.

3. Osimhen records his lowest rating of the season
The biggest mark of Osimhen’s struggles against Barcelona was in his individual performance rating.
According to SofaScore, the Galatasaray striker received a rating of 6.3, his lowest of the season.
He failed to register a shot on target, completed only two passes in 90 minutes and lost possession six times. The rating was particularly disappointing given his recent form and importance to Galatasaray’s attack.
The last time Osimhen received a similarly low rating was in April, when he scored a 6.2 despite Galatasaray’s 3-0 victory over Fenerbahçe.
He also received a 6.2 rating in January during Nigeria’s goalless draw against Morocco in the semi-finals of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations.
The Nigeria international, who only recently returned from an injury, would be keen to get his groove back when Galatasaray return to league action against Gençlerbirliği on Saturday.
