In a match that saw Galatasaray struggle to break down Bodrum FK on November 23, one player stood out for his unselfish play—Victor Osimhen.
Despite his team’s underwhelming performance in the 1-0 win, Osimhen’s actions on the field did not go unnoticed.
The Nigerian forward displayed a level of selflessness that caught the eye of many, including the ex-Fenerbahce chief, Rıdvan Dilmen.
Galatasaray’s attacking display was far from their usual dominant form, with the side managing only one goal—a header from Michy Batshuayi.
Victor Osimhen: A selfless star in Galatasaray’s narrow win
Osimhen, who has been in excellent form, had the opportunity to extend Galatasaray’s lead in the 66th minute.
With the goalkeeper at his mercy, he opted to pass to Hakim Ziyech instead of taking the shot himself.
Ziyech, in turn, missed the golden opportunity by sending the ball over the bar.
This selfless play may have cost Galatasaray a more comfortable victory, but it did not go unnoticed.
As the game progressed, Osimhen was again involved in the attack when Gabriel Sara sent him through on goal just before stoppage time.
Unfortunately, the Bodrum goalkeeper was quick to deny him, preventing the striker from adding to his tally.
Rıdvan Dilmen, who reflected on the game, praised Osimhen for his unselfishness, stating that he was the only player on the field who did not act out of selfinterest.
While the Super Eagles striker did not register a goal or assist, his decision-making was a highlight in an otherwise lacklustre team performance.
“What was surprising was that I have never seen Galatasaray look so scattered since the beginning of the season.
“It was a match where everyone was egoistic except Victor Osimhen. The one who saw the goal took a shot. The attacks did not work either. Osimhen passed the ball even when he was supposed to take the shot,” Rıdvan said as quoted by haber sari kirmizi.
