Wolves prodigy, Paris FC star: Meet 5 Zimbabweans who could wreck Super Eagles at Unity Cup

Published on by

The Warriors of Zimbabwe will be going up against the Super Eagles of Nigeria in the Unity Cup—a four-nation friendly tournament—on Tuesday, Afrik-Foot reports.

Interestingly, both nations were in the same group for the 2026 World Cup qualifiers, sharing the spoils across their two head-to-head encounters.

For defending champions Nigeria, as much as they would be looking to retain their crown, this tournament offers a prime chance to assess new faces and give non-regulars an opportunity to don the iconic green and white.

The Warriors of Zimbabwe, on the other hand, have called up some of their best legs for this competition. Coach Kaitano Tembo will be hoping his side can edge past Nigeria and go all the way to lift the trophy.

Ahead of the clash in London, Afrik-Foot highlights five Zimbabwean players who could prove problematic for the Super Eagles on Tuesday.

1. Marshall Munetsi

The 29-year-old central midfielder is one to watch out for against the Super Eagles, possessing the quality to disrupt Nigeria’s flow in the middle of the park. He is imposing, composed on the ball, and carries a significant aerial threat.

Munetsi’s clinical edge in front of goal is also worth noting; his four goals and two assists in 15 games during the recently concluded Ligue 1 season prove he is a player the Nigerian backline must guard closely.

The 26-year-old Udinese defender is another Warrior capable of halting a Super Eagles victory.

He is coming off a decent campaign that saw him feature in 17 games for Italian Serie A side Udinese. Highly physical and technically sound, it should not be surprising to see him bombing forward to stretch the play and support the attack. Zemura’s recovery pace is also a major asset.

3. Jonah Fabisch

Young midfielder Fabisch currently plays for 3. Liga club Erzgebirge Aue in Germany, but he stands out as one of the most technically gifted players on the ball for Zimbabwe.

For a midfielder, the 24-year-old is remarkably fleet-footed and an excellent dribbler. He couples that flair with a high work rate, consistently covering the full length of the pitch to disrupt the opposition.

The Aris Thessaloniki forward is one of the most well-traveled players in the Zimbabwean squad, boasting experience across Sweden, France, Spain, and now Greece.

Kadewere enters the tournament in fine form, having contributed three goals and three assists in his last five outings. The former Lyon front man provides a heavy physical presence in the box and a direct running style that will force the Nigerian defenders to remain incredibly disciplined.

5. Tawanda Chirewa

The Wolves-owned midfielder is highly rated within the Zimbabwean football landscape. Born in England, he has spent his entire developmental and professional career playing in the English leagues.

Chirewa can unpick any backline on his day. He is a sharp dribbler who isn’t afraid to unleash shots when afforded space. The last time these two teams met, it was Chirewa who struck the equalizer for the Warriors. As such, the Super Eagles will need to keep him under tight surveillance to avoid a repeat performance.
