Confirmed: PSG, Roma, Galatasaray stars in Super Falcons’ squad for Cameroon double header

Nigeria have announced a 25-player Super Falcons squad for next week’s international friendlies against Cameroon, as preparations intensify for the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) in Morocco, Afrik-Foot reports.

Head coach Justin Madugu released the list on Thursday, confirming a blend of experienced internationals and emerging talents for the two matches scheduled to take place in Yaoundé on 28 February and early March during the FIFA women’s international window.

Goalkeeper Chiamaka Nnadozie, who plays club football in Europe, headlines the squad alongside Erhabor Comfort, Anderline Mgbechi and Fatima Okolo. It is a first-time invitation for Portsmouth goalie Erhabor.

The defensive unit features experienced centre-back Osinachi Ohale, while Michelle Alozie, Al-Ittihad ace Ashleigh Plumptre, Galatasaray star Oluwatosin Demehin and Benfica defender Christy Ucheibe provide depth across the back line.

Midfield responsibility will largely fall on PSG playmaker Jennifer Echegini, supported by Halimatu Ayinde, Ngozi Okobi-Okeoghene, Deborah Abiodun and Precious Christopher.

One of the major talking points is the absence of veteran striker Asisat Oshoala, despite her strong club form. Instead, opportunities have been handed to younger attackers eager to stake their claim ahead of the continental tournament.

Captain Rasheedat Ajibade leads an attacking group that also includes Esther Okoronkwo, Chiwendu Ihezuo, alongside AS Roma star Rinsola Babajide, China-based Folashade Ijamilusi, Nottingham Forest striker Joy Omewa and Washington Spirit forward Monday Gift.

Nigeria vs Cameroon: Friendlies key to WAFCON ambitions

Nigeria will use the matches against long-time rivals Cameroon to fine-tune tactics, assess player fitness and strengthen squad chemistry before travelling to Morocco for WAFCON 2026.

The fixtures replace a previously planned regional tournament that was cancelled, giving the technical crew a more focused training environment against high-level opposition.

Nigeria, record continental champions, lifted their 10th African title last year and are aiming to defend it when the competition runs from 17 March to 3 April in Morocco.

The stakes are even higher this time, with the four semi-finalists earning automatic qualification for the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup in Brazil.
